Yellowbird Wins CCMA Rising Star Award

A great year just got better for Shane Yellowbird.

Currently riding the success of "Pickup Truck", Yellowbird won the coveted "Chevy Rising Star" award on Monday at the Canadian Country Music Associations Awards Show at the Brandt Centre in Regina. The title also earned him a $50,000 Chevy truck.

Yellowbird joked after the show that his next single would be "Me and My Ferrari".

In a serious vein, Yellowbird said he would use the award as another stepping stone in his career.

"I realize that this is just a beginning," said Yellowbird. "I've got to keep doing what I'm doing and hope that it snowballs and gets bigger."

Yellowbird also performed "Pickup Truck" in front of the packed arena of 6,420 fans who took in the nationally televised awards show where the top performers in Canadian country music were honoured.
